In Western
Australia, alarming statistics show that youths and
men aged between 17-25 make up less than 14 per cent
of all drivers but account for 42
per cent of driver deaths*.
In many cases overconfidence, lack
of experience and skills combine to create potentially
fatal situations. By simple behavioural changes through
understanding risks and hazards, and driving to suit
the conditions and appropriate skills level of the driver,
many of these deaths could be prevented.
The defensive
driving courses conducted at the RAC Driving Centre
provide a combination of practical and interactive sessions
in road safety skills. They are specially designed to
educate young drivers (post licence) in the risks associated
with driving and the skills needed to avoid crashes.
The courses encourage proactive driving aimed at improving
community road safety.
